President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has revealed his determination to strengthen the third tier of government by enhancing the economy at grassroots.
The President while reflecting on the reforms of his administration since assumption in May 29, 2023, stated that his administration is resolute in its determination to implement the Supreme Court judgement on the financial autonomy to local governments.
“As part of our efforts to re-engineer our political economy, we are resolute in our determination to implement the Supreme Court judgment on the financial autonomy of local governments,” he said.
It would be recalled that the Supreme Court in a July 11, 2024 judgement has affirmed the financial autonomy of Nigeria’s 774 local governments.
In the unanimous judgement of its seven-member panel on the Supreme Court unanimously upheld the suit brought by the federal government to strengthen the independence of local governments in the country.
