WCRD 2024: NCC unveils management system to effectively resolve consumer complaints
At the just concluded 2024 World Consumer Rights Day (WCRD), the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has unveiled its Automated Consumer Complaints Management system.
This system is designed to expand complaints channels and improve complaint resolution, even at the first level with service providers, enhancing the overall consumer experience.
The Commission harped on the advantage of this innovation at its WCRD 2024 celebrations.
The event, held at the NCC headquarters in Maitama Abuja, brought together key stakeholders including the Executive Vice Chairman, Executive Commissioners, Directors, Heads of Departments, the Chairman of the Industry Consumer Advisory Forum (ICAF), staff of the Commission, esteemed consumers, and members of the press
This year’s celebration at the NCC emphasised the significant role consumers play in the economy, echoing the sentiments of Adam Smith, author of “Wealth of Nations,” who asserted that consumption is the sole end and purpose of all production and services.
In his welcome address, Mr. Clem Omife, Deputy Director of the Consumer Affairs Bureau, emphasised the special position consumers hold in the Commission’s activities.
He acknowledged that without consumers, there would be no telecommunications industry noting that the Commission views telecom consumers as kings, recognising them as the driving force behind its activities.
He also reiterated the commitment of the NCC developing and promoting consumer-centric initiatives aimed at protecting consumer rights.
“These initiatives include consumer education programs such as the Telecom Consumer Parliament, Telecom Consumer Conversations, Village Square Dialogue, Campus Conversation, NYSC Camp Sensitisation, and Town Hall Radio programs. Additionally, the Commission has published the Telecom Consumer Handbook and transcribed it into Braille for the visually impaired,” he stated.
World Consumer Rights Day, observed annually on March 15th, serves as a global reminder to highlight consumer rights and advocate for their protection from unfair practices.
