Waste Task Force promises effective service delivery during festive season

The Oyo State Waste Management Task Force says it is ready to meet the waste management needs of residents in the state during the festive season.

The task force Chairperson, Mrs Aderonke Adedayo, also said that the management would consolidate the Mottainai Recycling Ltd’s year round vision of establishing a cleaner and healthier state.

Adedayo added that bearing in mind the anticipated increase in waste generation during the period, the task force would ensure that the season was celebrated in a clean environment.

She, also said that the task force, in collaboration with the State Waste Management Consultant, Mottainai Recycling Ltd., would intensify the distribution of Mottainai Accredited Franchise (MAF) to nooks and crannies of the state.

Adedayo said that MAF, otherwise known as PSP operators had been mandated to work round the clock in their assigned areas of operation, while Mottainai would provide backup trucks.

She reiterated that PSP operators operating within the state, who refused to adhere to the Zero Waste Initiative of the Seyi Makinde-led government would be dealt with.

The task force chairperson said that unregistered PSPs caught evacuating wastes would forfeit their trucks and risk six months imprisonment.

She enjoined all citizens not to throw their refuse indiscriminately on the median, thereby giving the state a dirty appearance.

Adedayo encouraged the residents to wait for their MAFs /PSPs to collect their refuse or call the emergency number.

Also, the Managing Director, Mottainai Recycling Ltd., Mr Adey Adewuyi, said that the agency recently put out emergency numbers to enable residents to reach out to them whenever there was a service gap.

Adewuyi said that phone numbers published, were also for the purpose of monitoring the situation of the environment during the Yuletide.

He appealed to residents to desist from acts capable of making life miserable for the environment and its inhabitants.

Adewuyi urged motorists to drive with caution to safeguard lives of street sweepers and other service providers, who would be discharging their duties during this period.
