Waste management: Kaduna State Government engages 3 companies

The Kaduna State Government has engaged the services of three refuse evacuation companies to manage solid waste generated in the state.

Jafaru Sani, Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, said this on Tuesday during an interview with Newsmen.

Sani said that the engagement was after the expiration of contract of another company, Cape Gate Ltd.

He said the ministry had to address the challenges experienced in solid waste management because the project was very sensitive, directly affecting the health and wellbeing of residents.

Sani said that in its efforts to improve the wellbeing and cleanliness of the environment, Gov. Nasir El Rufai had decided to engage new companies.

He said that this was because of the size and the increasing population of the state.

Sani said the three new companies are, Environmental Expression Ltd, for Kaduna metropolis, Bia Links Nigeria Ltd for Kafanchan, and Enerst Gobe Ltd, for Zaria

The Commissioner said that the target of the new companies was primarily to get the three cities cleaned.

He said that as part of the contract agreement, the company would be covering four main areas.

“The areas are evacuation of all wastes to the official dump sites, street cleaning and sweeping to ensure all the routes were clean, vegetation control, and desilting of drains,” Sani said.

He called on the public to desist from indiscriminate dumping of refuse in their neighbourhoods and ensure that they always use designated collection centres to avoid spread of diseases
