A 36-year-old woman, Ijeoma Obasi, has been deemed wanted by the police for her alleged involvement in a romantic relationship with someone of the same sex.
The police made the announcement a few weeks ago. A senior police officer, who craved anonymity, revealed that Obasi went missing in March 2023 following a fight with her husband, Babatunde Tolulope.
It was learnt that the husband had caught her in compromising position with another woman who happened to be his wife’s lover.
The husband subsequently threatened to report Obasi to the security agencies.
However, not long after the fight between the duo, Obasi reportedly ran away from the house.
“After searching for her to no avail, the husband came to us with evidence of the homosexual acts between his wife the her female lover.
“This is clearly against the law of our country.
Homosexuality is totally frowned upon here, and it is punishable under the Nigerian law. The law provides a 14-year-imprisonment for anyone convicted of homosexuality,” said the policeman.
According to the officer, the police launched a manhunt in search of Obasi but she is yet to be found nor has she turned up at her house.
He added that, “If anyone knows anything about Obasi’s whereabouts, they should not hesitate to notify the police.”
