Wakili: Our peratives arrested still in Ibadan, not yet moved to Abuja —OPC
The Oodua Peoples Congress said three of its operatives detained by the Oyo State Police Command are still in the state and not moved to Abuja as reported in some section of the media on Tuesday.
OPC Coordinator in Oyo State, Rotimi Olumo, made the statement to our Correspondent on Tuesday afternoon..
He said, “Our men are still in police custody here at the State Criminal Investigation Department in Iyaganku, Ibadan. I saw them this afternoon after a meeting with the police. They have not been moved anywhere and we are working on their release.”
It was earlier reported that the OPC, on Sunday, arrested notorious Fulani warlord, Iskilu Wakili, accused of terrorising villages in the Ibarapa area of the state.
The OPC later handed over Wakili to the Oyo State Police Command but the police subsequently detained three OPC operatives for allegedly burning down Wakili’s house and killing an unknown woman in the process.
However, the OPC had said the murder and arson allegations were false, adding that it immediately handed over Wakili and three of his accomplices to the police in Igboora after their arrest.
The Police insisted that OPC committed murder and arson. The Oyo State Police Commissioner, Ngozi Onadeko said.
At 9am on Sunday morning, the area commander and DPO Ayete called to inform us that some people attacked a Fulani camp and 3 people including wakili were arrested and taken to igboora police station division.”
”By the time they got to state CID, they were interrogated and we found out that 3 people arrested along with Wakili were OPC members and we should know that they have been trying to arrest Wakili for a while now. They said they got to the camp and they were attached by Wakili and others.”
“The issue is that as the OPC members left the camp, they set it on fire and a woman was shot in the stomach with her intestine gushed out and die in the process.”
The OPC insisted that Police statement is far from the truth and called on Yoruba leaders to come to the rescue of its men, saying it is unfortunate that the police resorted to hunting its men after arresting the notorious Fulani warlord, Wakili.
