The West African Examinations Council has released the results of the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination for School Candidates, with 93.9 percent of candidates passing. However, 215,267 results were withheld due to examination malpractice.
WAEC’s Head of Nigeria Organisation, Amos Dangut, announced that the examination was a success despite challenges such as insecurity and financial issues.
“The conduct of the WASSCE for school candidates, 2024, the first conducted under my administration, was a huge success,” Dangut said.
According to Dangut, 1,805,216 candidates registered for the examination, with 1,332,089 candidates obtaining credits in five subjects, including Mathematics and English Language.
However, 215,267 results were withheld due to examination malpractice, accounting for 11.92 percent of the total number of candidates.
The examination spanned seven weeks and six days, from April 30 to June 24, 2024. The coordination of examiners and marking of candidates’ scripts took place from July 10 to July 29 across 86 traditional marking venues nationwide.
Dangut highlighted four challenges encountered during the examination, including security concerns, non-adherence to registration deadlines, financial issues/inflation, and rogue website operators/shameless connivance of some supervisors.
“WAEC is releasing its results today, and we are pleased to inform candidates who sat WASSCE for school candidates, 2024, that the result has officially been released today, Monday, August 12, 2024,” the examination body said in a post on X, formerly Twitter.
The results are available to candidates, and WAEC has advised them to check their results online.
