WAEC blacklists 13 Kogi schools, 14 supervisors over examination malpractices

…State govt vows to prosecute indicted personnel

The West African Examination Council (WAEC) has blacklisted 13 schools and 14 supervisors in Kogi State for their involvement in alleged examination malpractices.

The state’s Commissioner for Education, Hon. Wemi Jones, revealed this during a meeting in Lokoja with the principals and supervisors implicated by WAEC.

Jones emphasised that any school official, including principals, teachers, or supervisors, found guilty of aiding or abetting examination malpractice would face legal action in accordance with the Kogi State Education Law of 2020.

“Examination malpractice is a criminal offence, and those found culpable will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” the Commissioner stated.

However, the Kogi State government has set up a committee led by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education.

Jones also expressed the state’s commitment to maintaining high standards in education, stressing that any individual or group promoting examination malpractices would be considered an enemy of the state.

“Kogi State Government has invested so much in education and will no longer tolerate the actions of bad eggs pulling down the gains made in the education sector,” he added.

Also, the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Jibrin Seidu Alhaji, also addressed the meeting, urging principals and supervisors to avoid actions that could tarnish the reputation of Kogi State’s education system.
