Voter’s registration: Ogun REC calls on residents to register online

The Resident Electoral Commissioner for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Ogun State, Prof. AbdulGaniyu Olayinka Raji has called on the citizens of the State to take advantage of the Commission’s Online Pre-Registration for Continuous Voter Registration exercise which commenced  nationwide on Monday 28 June, 2021 and register online to enable them have their voter’s cards.

This was according to the statement signed by Mrs Tadese Adenike, Head of Voter Education and Publicity, INEC, Ogun State office and made available to Nigerian NewsDirect on Wednesday at Abeokuta, the state capital.

Prof AbdulGaniyu Olayinka listed those who qualified to partake in this exercise to include people who are 18 years and above and have never registered, registered voters with accreditation issues during the past elections, with either their Permanent Voter’s Cards or fingerprints not read or recognised by Smart Card Reader.

Others are registered voters seeking transfer from one voting location to another, registered voters with defaced, damaged or lost PVCs, registered voters who wish to correct their data such as misspelt names, date of birth among others.

The Resident Commissioner disclosed further that those that want to register should access the website address https://cvr.inecnigeria.org or https://cvr.inec.gov.ng to pre-register and then proceed to INEC’s State or local government office to complete their registration on 19 July, 2021.

Prof AbdulGaniyu said that the date for commencement of physical Continuous Voters Registration (CVR) at all the other registration centres shall be determined based on evaluation of security situations across the entire 2,673 registration centers nationwide.

The statement revealed that the the Resident Commissioner had earlier extensively briefed the management staff and the electoral officers across the 20 local governments in the State on the modalities to embark upon to operate the Online Voter Registration portal and physical CVR.

Prof. AbdulGaniyu was said to have reiterated that that the online registration by INEC is free and there is neither INEC approved Cybercafe nor scratch card as all that is required to register online is a device/mobile phone that can connect to the internet.

The statement revealed that the 24-Hour online Continuous Voter registration statistics/update nationwide as at Tuesday 29 June, 2021 indicated a total of 59, 331 accounts created, 42,211 total applications with 27,759 New Voter Pre-Registration,  11, 177 Voter Record Review and 1,669 Voter Transfer among others.
