Victims rescued as police apprehend child trafficker in Anambra

The Anambra State Police Command has apprehended an individual linked to the trafficking of teenagers aged 13 to 16. During a press conference in Awka, Police Public Relations Officer Tochukwu Ikenga revealed that the suspect had trafficked numerous teenagers to neighboring countries.

Ikenga reported that some of these victims, who were transported to Ghana, have been safely returned to Nigeria. Authorities are currently conducting a search to capture additional members of the trafficking network.

The suspect’s arrest followed a rise in reports concerning missing teenagers within the state.

Ikenga also mentioned that Commissioner of Police Nnaghe Itam has instructed the state police to implement all necessary measures to combat the issue.

“The suspect is now in police custody and being interrogated. This will aid in rescuing other victims and identifying further members of the trafficking ring,” Ikenga stated.
