Vice-Chancellor solicits adequate infrastructure for federal university

Prof. Abayomi Fasina, Vice-Chancellor of Federal University, Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Ekiti State, on Wednesday appealed to stakeholders to invest in infrastructure that would create an enabling environment for its students.

He told a news conference that the university was currently facing challenges such as inadequate funding, hostel accommodation, lack of lecture halls and security threat from land owners.

The news conference held as part of activities marking Fasina’s first year in office as the fourth vice-chancellor of the university.

Fasina, however, assured the students that their welfare was of utmost priority.

“I want to appreciate God for my numerous achievements in the last one year in office as the fourth substantive vice-chancellor of FUOYE.

“One of my major aspirations is to make FUOYE a world class university that will be worthy of emulation by its counterparts.

“We have various challenges that are slowing down our pace in the areas of infrastructures such as hostel accommodation, inadequate lecture halls and security threat on our lands by land owners.

“I, therefore, appeal to our stakeholders to visit the university and assist us to make provisions for infrastructure that will create good learning environment for our students.

“The university management cannot do it alone; we need partners in progress who can help drive our vision.

“My office is open to notable investors who wish to build or donate hostels, lecture halls and support our vision for excellence and educational development,’’ he said.

Fasina said that with the fast growing number of students, the varsity’s management was determined to maintain high standard of education and ensure that it produced well-equipped graduates.

“We are not planning to admit students who are not intelligent and not hardworking because we don’t want students that will give us problems,’’ he said.
