There was rowdy session as stakeholders at the ongoing 2024 Joint Admissions Matriculation Board (JAMB) policy meeting in Abuja have protested the new minimum admission age of 18 years, causing a disruption to the minister’s address.
The stakeholders, comprising representatives from tertiary institutions across the country, loudly expressed their disapproval, prompting the minister to ask, “Are we together?” The response was a resounding “No!”
The Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, had announced the new policy, which was met with resistance from the stakeholders.
The Vice Chancellor of Elizade University, Kayode Ijaduola, raised an objection, stating that candidates had already sat for the UTME and should be allowed to get admission.
The minister conceded, saying that henceforth, the admission requirements should be stated clearly for future admissions.
However, the stakeholders protested that only candidates who are 16 years old should be admitted for the 2024 academic session.
