VC urges support for his vision for Nnamdi Azikiwe varsity

The Vice Chancellor (VC), Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Prof. Charles Esimone, has charged departments and research centres in the university to key into his vision to transform the institution.

Esimone gave the charge at the opening of a one-day workshop organised by the Ekwueme Centre for Multi-Disciplinary Research on Monday.

He said he painstakingly articulated his vision, code-named “Project 200,” with the objective of making the university one of the ten best in the world.

The VC said the vision would help to drive the institution to focus on academic excellence, productive public/community service, admistrative reforms, discipline and advancement.

He said he initiated the vision because all over the world, universities are known and ranked by the quality of research emating from them.

He said that research remained the principal thrust for the actualisaton of his vision, adding that the emphasis was on transitional research.

In a remark, the Director of the centre, Prof. Samuel Meludu, said it was pursuing Project 200 with determination as much as its capacity could carry.

Meludu thanked the VC for appointing him to oversee the centre, saying that he had resolved to give his best.

Dignitaries at the ceremony included the pioneer Director of the unit, Prof. Israel Okoye, now Bishop of Ihiala Diocese of the Anglican Communion, and his successor, Prof. Brian Adinma, among others.
