Use of hard drugs will no longer be condoned — VC, Alex Ekwueme varsity

The Vice-Chancellor of Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu Alike, Ebonyi State, Prof. Sunday Oge Elom said the intake of hard drugs, especially Mkpurimmiri, is forbidden in the varsity.

This is even as the VC threatened to expel any student found culpable.

He equally vowed that any staff of the university found culpable of such acts would be sacked by the management.

Prof. Elom disclosed this while briefing journalists in Abakaliki, ahead of the forthcoming 6th convocation ceremony of the University, slated to hold next Tuesday.

He expressed worry over the rising insecurity in the nation and said his administration in the varsity has sacrificed much to protect the lives of students from hoodlum attacks.

The Vice-Chancellor, however, said he constituted a security committee to protect adequately the lives of students, as well as, prevent hoodlums from destroying facilities of the University.

He said that 900 graduands will be convocating from the institution.

“On this 6th convocation ceremony, We will be turning out 900 graduands in 10 faculties with the following degree classifications; First Class = 20, Second Class Upper = 306, Second Class Lower =494, Third Class 79 and Pass = 1,” he stated.

Prof. Elom revealed that the emeritus Prof. Onyechi Obidoa will deliver the convocation lecture while the former Vice-Chancellor of Renaissance University, Ugbawka, Enugu State Prof. Charles Chike Onochie will be the chairman.

He stated further that: “We have already hit the ground running to take the university to greater heights.

“Thus, in the last 10 months of my administration, we have been able to constitute a university-wide security committee comprising staff, students, host community representatives and members of security agencies,” he added.
