Unknown gunmen murder Taraba varsity staff in his farm
A staff of the Federal University of Wukari in Taraba State, Daniel Bala Benedict, has been gruesomely murdered by unknown gunmen.
Benedict, whom Newsmen learnt was a staff of the faculty of Agriculture, was hacked down on his farm on Tuesday in Wukari local government council.
A source from the council who spoke with our correspondent said he was assassinated on his farm shortly after taking his children to school.
The deceased who hails from Donga local government council of the state was before his demise a PhD student at the Federal University, Wukari.
Our source revealed that after his murder, the unknown gunmen used the deceased handset to notify the wife of their ugly act.
On rushing to the scene, the remains of the deceased, according to our source, were discovered in a pool of blood.
A close associate of the deceased who gave his name as Thomas Tsojon, has now asked the state government to work round the clock with security operatives to track down the killers.
The killing, at the time of filing this report, has begun to ignite dust among the people of the community.
Elders of the community are said to have been appealing to youths of the community not to take the laws into their hands.
The gruesome murder, according to one of the elders, “will go a long way to discourage the people from farming, stating that “our people are now apprehensive of going to the farm for fear of being killed”.
Confirming the report, the Caretaker Committee Chairmen, of the local government, Dr. Adi Grace, said he had visited the scene of the incident and urged natives to remain calm as the council, in collaboration with the security agencies work to fish out the perpetrators.
Also confirming the report, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Command, Abdullahi, said efforts to track down the perpetrators are in top gear.
