Unknown gunmen attack former CBN Governor, Soludo, kill 3 policemen, abduct Commissioner

Unknown gunmen have attacked the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN),  Prof Chukwuma Charles Soludo and killed three policemen guarding him.

The incident according to his media aide, Christian Aburine, occurred when the gunmen invaded his community town hall in Isuofia, Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State during a meeting with the youths of the community.

The report also claimed that Anambra State Commissioner for Utilities, Emeka Ezenwanne, who was at the event was also kidnapped by the assailants.

A source at the scene who is a member of All Soludo Support Group told journalists that  Soludo, a gubernatorial aspirant of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA)  is in an undisclosed but safe place at the moment, although he was at the venue when the gunmen invaded.

The Police spokesperson in the state, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu who confirmed the attack to our Correspondent on Wednesday evening in Awka, said he was not sure of the killings.

“I can confirm that there was  a gathering in Isuofia community where Prof. Soludo and other personalities gathered for a meeting on Wednesday, March 31, 2021.

“For now, we can only speak of the gun shots, but other details especially on whether there was  causalities or not will be when we get more facts,” he said.

It could not be immediately ascertained if the attack was politically motivated or a continuation of the recent pattern of attacks on security personnel by unknown gunmen in Anambra and Other South Eastern States leading to loss of lives.
