Uniport requires final-year students to pay N649,400 by October for clearance

Parents of final-year students at the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) are expressing frustration as the university has issued a deadline for students to pay N649,400 for clearance by October 4, 2024, or face consequences. This amount is not for tuition but for obtaining a clearance for payments already made during their studies.

Documents obtained outline various fees required for clearance, including Admissibility clearance (N77,000), Medical Clearance (N64,000), Year 4 Clearance Fee (N74,000), Student Affairs Clearance Fee (N78,500), Biometric Clearance Fee (N30,000), Digital Final Course Enrollment Clearance Fee (N32,000), JAMB and SSCE Certificate Verification Clearance Fee (N175,000), GES Clearance Fee (N76,500), and Library Clearance Fee (N42,400).

A memo from the Director of Quality Assurance and Quality Control, dated July 4, 2024, instructs that all final-year students must complete their registration and clearance during the second semester, with a payment deadline of October 4, 2024.

However, Dr. Sam Kpenu, the University’s Director of Public Relations, has denied knowledge of this clearance list, calling it “outrageous.” He claims that the university does not issue such fees and suggests that if the information is accurate, it might not be from UNIPORT.
