UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital establishes Pediatric Nursing School to curb increased morbidity, mortality in children — Management

The management of UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital has disclosed that the authorities of the institution established the pediatric nursing school to train and produce highly competent nurses that can take care of the children right from their birth.

The Deputy Director of Nursing Services UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital, Mrs. Motunrayo Olowu said the management established the school to curb the increased morbidity and mortality in children.

Mrs. Olowu noted that there is increased morbidity and mortality in children in the society which she said the management wishes to bring to an end.

She said that the Pediatric department in the institution is one of the departments that has the highest number of facilities with man power to train competent hands in that specialty.

The Deputy Director of Nursing Services UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital stated this in Osogbo, Osun State capital, on Thursday, saying that those who wish to enroll in the 12 months calendar year programme must be ready to learn and take instructions.

Speaking on the eligibility of the candidate to apply for 2022/2023 academic section, Mrs Olowu said that only registered nurses that have licenses with five credits in O’level could only apply for the new academic year.

According to Mrs. Olowu, “The UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital established the school to train and produce a highly competent and responsive and committed child health practitioners that are Pediatric Nursing to add value to the society.

“We want to go back to society to produce highly competent nurses, competent hands that can take care of children right from birth in the delivery room. When the child comes out he or she will be resuscitated by a competent hands.

“The eligible candidate must be a registered nurse with a valid practicing license of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria. Also they should possess five credits O’level of English mathematics, biology, chemistry and physics.

“The school has been accredited to go ahead to train nurses. And this academic section 2022/2023 students are resuming in November.

“Any interested candidates should register online on school website,” she stated.
