UNILAG dismisses claims of NELFund loan repayment delays
The University of Lagos (UNILAG) has rejected claims circulating online that it delayed reimbursing students who paid mandatory fees before receiving funds from the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFund).
In a statement issued on Thursday, Mrs Adejoke Alaga-Ibraheem, Head of the University’s Communication Unit, clarified that the institution had already reimbursed students in the first two batches.
She said, “Refunds are typically processed after a thorough reconciliation and verification process with NELFund. So far, three tranches of NELFund loans have been received by the university. Beneficiaries in the first two batches have already been reimbursed.”
Alaga-Ibraheem added that the third batch of funds was received in late April, and reconciliation of student payment details is ongoing.
“The University is following all due procedures, and refunds will be processed in accordance with laid-down guidelines,” she stated.
She reaffirmed UNILAG’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and providing student-focused services.
“We encourage students to take advantage of the NELFund loan scheme. For any issues, they should visit the NELFund help desk in the Student Affairs Division for swift resolution,” she advised.
