Prof. Tanko Ishaya, the Vice Chancellor, University of Jos, has promised to continually improve on the welfare of staff and students of the institution.
Ishaya made the promise at a press conference to mark his first year in office as vice chancellor of the university.
Newsmen reports that Ishaya was appointed vice chancellor of the institution on Dec. 1, 2021.
Ishaya maintained that welfare of the staff and students was at the core of his administration.
He promised to liaise with various unions in the university to provide a more conducive working environment.
The VC also promised to ensure regular promotion of staff in order to engender efficient and effective service delivery.
”One of the cardinal area of our administration is the welfare of our esteemed workforce; we have continued to align with their respective unions with a view to ensuring that the welfare of their members are mainstreamed and sustained within our purview.
”The industrial action that took a chunk of our time this session has hindered some of the actions we had in mind, but with the return of normalcy, we shall ensure that our workers are fully motivated and their welfare taken seriously.
”We have just announced the promotion of over 200 academics to the professorial cadre, 143 senior and 399 Junior Staff.
”The Registry and all complexes are currently working round the clock to ensure that both teaching and non -teaching members of staff who are due for promotion and other form of career advancements are attended to without delay,” he said.
The vice chancellor further said that management would address critical concerns of students to ease some of their challenges on campus.
”We have introduced a work study programme where interested students are involved in cleaning services and cutting of grasses within the campuses to enhance their means of sustenance while in school,” he said.
Ishaya also promised to vigorously pursue infrastructural development in the university in order to tackle the challenge classrooms and other necessary infrastructural deficit.
He thanked the council, staff and students of the institution for the support and cooperation accorded him in the last one year.
