UNIJOS research centre trains 329 postgraduate students in 5 years
The University of Jos Africa Centre of Excellence in Phytomedicine Research and Development (ACEPRD) has trained 329 postgraduate students from 2015 to 2019.
Prof. Sabastian Maimako, the Vice-Chancellor of the university disclosed this in a press briefing on Monday in Jos.
According to Maimako, the students were drawn from within and outside Nigeria, adding that some of the foreign students came from Mali, Liberia, Kenya, Togo, among others.
He said the students were trained in Clinical Pharmacy, Pharmacognosy, Biotechnology, Bioinformation and Pharmaceutical Microbiology.
“ACEPRD has the mandate to train manpower and conduct applied research that will impact society by harnessing the African biodiversity.
“Since its establishment in 2014, this centre has been able to discharge its mandate credibly leading to many successes being recorded.
“It has sponsored a total of 329 students for its postgraduate programme from 2015 to 2019.
“These students came from Mali, Togo, Benin Republic, Kenya, Uganda, Liberia and Nigeria.
“These students have completed their programme and are now fully engaged in the healthcare delivery industry, serving in hospitals, research institutions, pharmaceutical companies, among others,” he said.
The VC said the centre had also organised series of trainings for health practitioners, students and other professionals on discoveries and innovations.
He added that centre was intensifying efforts to begin some other short programmes in a bid to earn revenue to fund its activities and contribute to the university’s coffers.
Maimako assured that the university management would continue to support the centre to achieve more and enhance its reputation through its many research-oriented activities and community service participations.
