UNICEF, RUWASA distribute sanitation materials to flood victims in Jigawa

…1,250 WASH kits supplied to IDPs camps to prevent cholera outbreaks

The Jigawa State Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWASA) in collaboration with UNICEF has begun the distribution of 1,250 WASH kits to flood victims in the state.

The kits are aimed at preventing cholera outbreaks in the 12 IDPs camps across the 14 affected local government areas.

The distributed materials include WASH Dignity kits and Cholera kits, which contain essential items such as water guards, bathing soap, Jerry cans, washing powder, plastic kettles, cups, and buckets.

The kits are designed to provide emergency assistance to the victims and prevent the spread of cholera.

During the flag-off ceremony at Kiyawa and Buji IDPs Camps, UNICEF officials and RUWASA staff emphasised the importance of the distribution.

They noted that the materials are intended to provide proactive measures to save lives and prevent cholera outbreaks.

The Director of Sanitation and Hygiene, Malam Magaji Abdulsalam, stated that 120 cartons of WASH Dignity kits and 80 cartons of Cholera prevention kits have been supplied to Kiyawa local government area.

He urged local government officials to ensure fair and just distribution of the items to the affected victims, prioritizing those still taking refuge at the camps.

The Managing Director of RUWASA, Engr Abubakar Sidi, represented by Alh Magaji, emphasised the importance of providing proactive measures to prevent cholera outbreaks.

He called on local government officials to present the items to the victims as received to ensure equity and fairness during distribution.
