Osun State Government has reiterated its resolve to equip students with vocational skills so as to be self-independent and be employers of labour even after graduating from tertiary institutions.
Commissioner for Education, Hon. Folorunsho Oladoyin stated this, on Wednesday, while declaring open a retreat organised by the Governing Council of the Osun State Polytechnic, Iree.
The Commissioner added that the State Government of Osun will continue to lay emphasis on the production of graduates who are self reliant and can be employers of labour through the application of vocational skills acquired while in school.
He said the vision of the State, through the education sector, especially the tertiary institutions, is to be able to produce graduates who will employ critical thinking to be creative, innovative and globally competitive.
While appreciating the council and management for the careful choice of the theme for the retreat which is “Repositioning Osun State Polytechnic Iree To Meet With Global Phenomenon In Tertiary Education” the Commissioner said tertiary institutions owe the nation a lot in trying to reduce unemployment among youths.
He said, “It is a clear demonstration of being abreast of the global realities and readiness to align with the vision of the state government as well as the expectations of relevant stakeholders.
“It is important to commend your efforts towards the repositioning of the institution with the context of the three major framework which is globalisation, knowledge as a growth driver and ICT which is shaping the trends in the 21st century education,” the Commissioner enunciated.
