A 35-year-old unemployed man, Emmanuel Oyobi, who allegedly stole a tricycle, was on Tuesday brought before an Ejigbo Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.
Oyobi, whose address was not provided, is facing a charge of stealing, to which he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, ASP Benedict Aigbokhan, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Dec. 11, 2022 at 8:30 p.m. at Ikotun area of Lagos.
Aigbokhan said that the defendant stole a tricycle with registration No. KTU 43 QG, belonging to the complainant, Mr Godson Nwatughara.
He said that the defendant stole the tricycle from where it was parked.
Aigbokhan said that the offence contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Newsmen reports that the section stipulates three years jail term for stealing.
The Magistrate, Miss K. A. Ariyo, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
Ariyo ordered that the sureties must be gainfully employed with evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
She adjourned the case until Feb. 3 for mention.
