Unemployed man faces murder charge

A Lagos High Court at Tafawa Balewa Square on Monday remanded an unemployed man, Toafeek Yekini, at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre, for allegedly stabbing a man to death.

Yekini, whose address was not provided, is standing trial on a charge of murder which he pleaded not guilty.

The Lagos State Prosecution Counsel, Mr. A. M. Adetokunbo, had told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Feb. 25, 2013, at Bolade Junction, Oshodi, Lagos.

Adetokunbo said that the defendant stabbed one Obafemi Adesomi to death, during a fight.

According to him, the offence contravenes Section 221 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The defendant’s counsel, Mr. A. O. Ogunsanya, was, however, in court.

The Judge, Justice Yetunde Adesanya, remanded the defendant at the Kirikiri Maximum Correctional Centre and adjourned the case until July 4, for trial.
