Unemployed man arraigned for stealing phones worth N820,000

The Lugbe Grade 1 Area court sitting in Abuja has arraigned A 22-year-old unemployed man, Odoh Ernest, on Wednesday for stealing two phones worth N820,000.

Ernest was charged with theft and mischief.

The prosecution counsel, Steven Osho, told the court that on January 5, the complainant, Izong Stephenie of Area 10 Garki, reported the matter at the Garki Police Station.

According to Mr Osho, the defendant accosted the complainant and her sister while returning from the supermarket and snatched their phones.

The prosecuting counsel also told the court that the defendant made away with the complainant’s iPhone 12 Pro Max and her sister’s Techno Camo 10 phone, all worth N820,000.

Mr Osho also said that during the police investigation, the defendant could not give a satisfactory account of himself.

The prosecutor Osho said the offence contravened the provisions of sections 287 and 327 of the Penal Code.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The judge, Aliyu Kagarko, granted the defendant bail of N1 million, with one surety in like sum.
