Umahi launches Operation Free Our Roads, commences repairs on Lagos-Sango-Abeokuta Expressway

In a move to tackle dilapidated road infrastructure across the country, the Minister of Works, Sen. Engr. Nweze David Umahi has launched a special operation to tackle the menace.

This is as the Ministry kicked off with repairs on the failed sections of the 7 km Lagos-Sango-Otta-Abeokuta road.

In a survey by NewsDirect, we observed the contractors had commenced palliative works at the Kola axis which has been an eye sore for motorists. Prior to the intervention, motorists frequent a one-way route from the toll gate area to the Ahmadiyya u-turn as a way to escape the dilapidated sections of the route.

This announcement was made on Wednesday through a statement issued by the Special Adviser Media to the Minister of Works, Uchenna Orji.

In the statement, Orji emphasised the government’s commitment to addressing the pressing infrastructure issues affecting commuters

The federal government-owned road has been in a deplorable state for more than 20 years. It was finally handed over to the state government this year by the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration after previous efforts.

Governor Abiodun emphasised that bureaucratic bottlenecks stalled the reconstruction of the road.

While recalling the efforts by the Ogun and Lagos State governments to take over and reconstruct the expressway, Abiodun said he and his Lagos State counterpart were frustrated by delays from the federal government.

The Governor of Ogun state, Prince Dapo Abiodun recently flagged off the road reconstruction at the Itori, Ewekoro Local Government Area ensuring residents of the completion in 18 months.
