Umahi blames increase in insecurity on politicians who want power at all costs

Jacob Ogodo, Abakaliki

Ebonyi state governor, Chief David Umahi has decried the increasing rate of insecurity in the country and attributed it to unpatriotic elements who want to take power at all cost.

Governor Umahi lamented that those politicians do all manner of things including cultism,  manipulation and deception of  the youths in order to clinch power and called for reorientation as a way to reduce the level of insecurity.

Umahi made this remarks while declaring open the 65th Emergency Senate Meeting of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), held at the Christian Ecumenical Centre, Abakaliki.

He lamented that there is little patriotism in Nigeria noting that people steal for lack of patriotism and urged Nigerians to ensure that their patriotism are not to their conscience but to the country.

The Governor said it is time for the youths to take the future in their hands, adding that it is the reason why he insisted in the development of the youths because there will take care of their lives and that of the country tomorrow.

He described cultists as “weak people,” saying that they usually gathered to kill in order to protect their weakness.

“You cannot see any energetic or intelligent youth engage in cultism. The number of cultists in our schools is few.

“It should also be mentioned that those who take delight in what murderers do are also hell-bound,” he said.

The governor, therefore, admonished students to shun killing, saying that “anyone that sheds blood will always have blood flowing in his generations.”

He commended the NANS leadership for acknowledging his administration’s strides in infrastructure development.

“Our projects are meant to protect the youths as future leaders.

“You must be focused, hardworking and courageous to address the several socio-economic challenges confronting the country,” he said.

Earlier in his remarks, the NANS president, Comrade Sunday Asefo Dayo, said the association has endorsed Governor David Umahi for President come 2023 general elections.

Comrade Dayo said that their decision was informed by the Governor’s modest achievements which cut across all spheres of human existence saying the Governor’s emergence will bring more fortunes for Nigerian people.

He commended Governor Umahi for his student-friendly policies saying all Nigerian Students would rally round him to achieve the target.

“Your Excellency, you have been called the most student friendly Governor, the National Association of Nigerian Students which has the population of over forty one million Nigerian Students across home and diaspora have conferred on you the Governor of Nigerian Students, your Excellency, my State is at the back of Ebonyi State.”
