UI Alumni disassociates self from letter soliciting funds from members
The University of Ibadan Alumni Association Lagos Branch has disassociated itself from a recent letter purportedly authored by one Dr. Kemi Emina, which has been circulated among unsuspecting members of the association to solicit funds.
The letter in question pertains to the event titled “A Day of Excellency: Celebrating Michael Omolayole @95 and University of Ibadan Alumni Association @65”.
This was contained in a statement issued in Lagos by the Chairman of the Association, Dr Salau Folaranmi.
“Our branch would like to clarify the following:
That while Dr Omolayole Founded UIAA Lagos in 1958, the national body of the association which Emina once led as National President was founded the 1974. Therefore, UIAA Lagos is the precursor of UIAA National; it thus means that the 65th anniversary of the Association cannot be done without the knowledge of the Elders, Leaders and members of the Association in Lagos.”
“That UIAA Lagos has set in motion plans to celebrate it 65 years anniversary to be combined with the 75th founders day of UI and a funds raising for the UIAA Lagos Resource Centre for which a Committee been Chaired by Pastor Mrs Maurine Bakare and Mrs Maiden Ibru has been set up.”
‘’Commitment to Integrity: It is our fervent believe that the Emina’s purported event and his letter soliciting funds from members is embedded in dubious and extraneous motives. Meanwhile the University of Ibadan Alumni Association Lagos Branch holds integrity and transparency in the highest regard. We are committed to maintaining the trust and confidence of our members and the public by adhering to the principles of responsible leadership. We take this matter seriously, and we will take appropriate action to ensure that such incidents do not occur in the future, as we encourage our members to verify the authenticity of any correspondence claiming to do anything event concerning the UIAA founded in Lagos in 1958 by Dr Omolayole from the leadership in Lagos’’.
“We use this medium to inform the general public that an official communication from our association concerning our planned events will be disseminated to all the stakeholders like the University of Ibadan management, the UIAA national and all the branches across the country through recognized channels, and it will reflect the consensus and collective views of our members”.
“We sincerely regret any confusion or misunderstanding that may have arisen from Emina’s unscrupulous letter to hoodwink Pa Omolayole and unsuspecting members. We urge our members and the public to disregard its content and consider it invalid with respect to the University of Ibadan Alumni Association Lagos Branch @65”.
