Jose Luis Mendilibar has claimed that Manchester United got ‘scared’ during the closing stages of the Europa League quarter-final clash last night.
Both clubs drew 2-2 at Old Trafford to set up a crunch second leg in Spain next Thursday.
Erik ten Hag’s side appeared to be comfortably on course for victory after midfielder Marcel Sabitzer gave the home side a first-half double.
Manchester United suffered injuries with the likes of Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez affected.
The Sevilla boss noted that the Red Devils become afraid in the last stages of the game.
Two own goals in the closing stages have now left the Red Devils with an uphill task to qualify, Mendilibar told reporters.
“With the tie and Lisandro’s [Martinez] injury, they [United] were scared and asked for more time.
“When we made it 2-1, a great Manchester noticed that there was a great Sevilla.”
