UEFA reacts to Frank Lampard’s appointment as Chelsea new manager

UEFA, on Thursday, reacted after Chelsea appointed Frank Lampard as the club’s new manager.

The Europe top football governing body described Lampard’s appointment as a ‘good move’.

“Chelsea appoint 2012 winner & former midfielder Frank Lampard as their new manager on a three-year deal. Good move,” UEFA posted on Twitter alongside a picture of Lampard on Blues’ shirt holding the 2012 Champions League trophy.

Newsmen had reported that Lampard on Thursday signed a three-year deal with Chelseaworth £4million-a-year with hefty bonuses, especially for getting into the UEFA Champions League.

The 41-year-old replaces Maurizio Sarri, who has since left to take over at Juventus, after spending only one season at Stamford Bridge.

Speaking after his appointment, Lampard told Chelsea’s official website: “I am immensely proud to be returning to Chelsea as head coach. Everyone knows my love for this club and the history we have shared.”

The Red Devils host Chelsea in the Premier League this Wednesday

United lost 1-0 at Newcastle in their last game and will be looking to bounce back when they host the Blues.

In the Champions League, United sit bottom of their group ahead of their final fixture against Bayern Munich.

Merson believes that the next three games could determine the manager’s fate.

“If they lose to Chelsea, Bournemouth, and Bayern, I don’t see how Ten Hag keeps his job.

“I do think they’ll beat Bournemouth, however, and they could do well against a Bayern Munich side that has already qualified for the Round of 16,” Merson wrote for Sportskeeda.

Championship: Ndidi talks up Leicester City’s promotion chase

Leicester City midfielder Wilfred Ndidi, has highlighted the importance of Saturday’s win at West Brom to the team’s promotion quest.

The Foxes defeated Carlos Corberan’s men 2-1 at the Hawthorns with Harry Winks netting the winner in stoppage time.

Ndidi provided the assist for Kiernan Dewberry-Hall opener which was cancelled out later by Josh Maja.

Leicester City maintained top position on the table and remain on course to secure an immediate return to the top-flight after their relegation last season.

“It was really brilliant,”he told the club’s official website.

“You could see how we acted on the bench and all the fans. It was really amazing because we actually needed it.

“We know it is very tight at the moment with the fact that the last game was not the best game, but we knew if we could get this, it’s really amazing because it gives us more steps ahead. It was really good.”

Enzo Maresca’s men will be back in action again on Saturday when they will welcome Plymouth Argyle to the King Power Stadium.

EPL: Guardiola reveals Tottenham manager that made title hard to win

Manchester City boss, Pep Guardiola has claimed it is now harder to win the Premier League.

Guardiola was speaking to the media on Friday, ahead of the visit of Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

According to him, Spurs have “always been up there” since Mauricio Pochettino became their manager.

“It [the Premier League] is a more difficult competition to win and I have said many times that every season it is getting better. So more teams involved and every single game is so difficult.

“Ever since Mauricio Pochettino has arrived, I would say Spurs have always been up there, so yes, they are a fantastic team.

“Of course, they have a lot of absences now, but I saw the first 15-20 minutes against Aston Villa and they created a lot of chances, especially in their approach.

“So it is definitely really good for football,” Guardiola said.
