The Usman Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (UDUS) on Monday matriculated 5,532 students for the 2020/2021 academic session.
Speaking at the ceremony, Prof. Lawal Bilbis, the Vice Chancellor, UDUS, said that the students were admitted from a list of about 16,000 qualified candidates who applied for admission into the institution.
He said that the 2020/2021 admission gave priority to the sciences and science-related programmes.
“This priority is in compliance with the Federal Government’s directive on Science to Humanity students ratio of 60:40.
”It is also our response to the government’s desire for rapid development through advances in science and technology,” he said.
Bilbis added that the university had pursued its objectives with sustained vigour in its 46 years of existence.
“This has resulted into outstanding positive outcomes and progressive academic activities as well as excellent performance,” he said.
Bilbis added that the university has secured full accreditation for 98 per cent of its courses from the National Universities Commission (NUC), stressing that 37 out of the 38 programmes of the institution have full accreditation.
The Vice Chancellor called on the matriculating students to strictly adhere to the university’s rules and regulations, including personal discipline, high moral standards and respect for constituted authorities.
Prof. Aminu Maude, the Dean of Students Affairs, UDUS, congratulated the new students for securing admission into the university.

” You are here for value addition in your future, so try to associate in goodness and virtues, ensure to be good ambassadors to your respective families and institution,” Maude said.
He urged them to remain focused in all their academic activities and to obey the university’s laws, stressing that the students handbook would serve a great guide for them on campus.
Maude urged them to abide by the COVID-19 safety protocols and be wary of bad friends, indecent dressing, cultism and other bad behaviors.
