Udi backs Peseiro to lead Super Eagles to AFCON glory

Former Super Eagles midfielder, Duke Udi is rooting for Jose Peseiro to lead the team to continental glory in Cote d’Ivoire next year.

Peseiro has been criticised following the Super Eagles’ poor showing in recent outings.

The Eagles laboured to draw against Lesotho and Zimbabwe in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying fixtures

That led to renewed calls for Peseiro to be sacked but Udi has backed the Portuguese to remain in charge of the team.

“It’s too early to sack a coach because he drew two matches. He has not lost,” the former Shooting Stars player told BBC Sports Africa.

“We are still on course for both competitions (the World Cup and Nations Cup). In Ivory Coast, anything can happen.”

Cote d’Ivoire will host the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations from January 13 to February 11, 2024.

The Super Eagles are in Group A with Cote d’Ivoire, Equatorial Guinea and Guinea-Bissau.
