UCL: Benzema makes history as Real Madrid beat Chelsea

Real Madrid striker, Karim Benzema, on Wednesday made history after scoring a hat-trick in his side’s Champions League quarter-final 3-1 win over Chelsea.

Real Madrid defeated Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, thanks to three goals from Benzema.

Benzema’s goals against Chelsea mean the 34-year-old has now become the first France player to reach ten goals plus in a single campaign in Champions League history, according to OptaJean.

Benzema is also the first France player to do so in the European Cup since Just Fontaine in 1958/59 (also 10).

Meanwhile, the result against Chelsea gives Real Madrid a first-leg advantage ahead of the second leg next week.

Benzema will now hope to lead Real Madrid to victory when they host Getafe in a LaLiga tie this weekend.
