Two YPP lawmakers defect to LP in Abia

Two lawmakers of the Young Progressive Party (YPP) in the Abia State House of Assembly have defected to Labour Party (LP) after they were accused of anti-party activities with their open support for the current administration led by Governor Alex Otti.

The lawmakers, Iheanacho Nwogu, representing Osisioma North State Constituency and Fine Ahuama, representing Osisioma South State Constituency announced their defection in two separate letters after being expelled by the party due to accusations levied against them.

Upon their defection, they visited Governor Otti at the Presidential Lodge at the Government House, Umuahia in the company of House Majority Leader, Uchenna Okoro, representing Arochukwu State Constituency under Labour Party umbrella. The two LP members said that leaving YPP will enable them to join Governor Alex Otti in deepening democracy at the grassroots for the benefit of their constituent

While receiving them, Governor Otti said that the two former members of YPP had always supported his administration without a bias of political differences and assured them that they have equal privileges as LP old members.

The Governor noted that his administration has a peculiar approach which ensures transparency and appointments are made based on service and merit. To further buttress this claim, he noted that under his administration, a non-Abian was made a Permanent Secretary in the Abia State Civil Service.

He congratulated them for the bold step taken, while also stating that he looks forward to receiving the governorship candidate of the YPP, Chief Enyinnaya Nwafor.
