Two teenagers reportedly missing found dead in river in Ogun state

Two teenagers, Malik Abdulganiyu and Hawal Akande, were discovered deceased in a river near Edudu Baale, within the Idi-Oke community in Igbesa, Ado-Odo Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State.

The boys, who had been missing since August 28, 2024, were found dead with their bodies floating in the river on Friday. The Ogun State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the discovery early Saturday morning.

Fifteen-year-old Abdulganiyu and thirteen-year-old Akande had left their residence on Olaigbe Street in Egudu Baale on Wednesday morning to work at a Salvation Army facility in their community.

Odutola reported that the boys’ mothers reported them missing around 1:30 a.m. on August 8, 2024, after they failed to return home from work on Thursday.

“The bodies were found in a river not far from their residence. Police investigators examined the scene and the bodies but found no indications of foul play,” Odutola stated.

The grieving family has requested the release of the bodies for burial in accordance with Islamic traditions.
