Two suspected kidnappers arrested in Anambra
The Anambra State Police Command reported the arrest of two individuals suspected of kidnapping and being part of an armed robbery gang operating in Uga, Ekwulobia, Umuchu, Nkpologu, Ezinifite, and surrounding areas.
According to a press statement by state police spokesman SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the suspects are affiliated with a notorious secessionist group involved in kidnapping, car theft, and armed robbery in these remote communities. The arrests were made on Thursday following an investigation into a kidnapping incident in Aguata reported to the police in 2023. The operation involved military, civil defense, and other security forces.
Ikenga noted that one suspect has bullet wounds on his leg, while the other, who poses as a pastor and was preparing criminal charms for the gang, has confessed to the crimes and is assisting police in locating other gang members.
The suspects have also revealed the location of their shrine for preparing charms and some of the stolen vehicles. Commissioner of Police CP Nnaghe Itam assured the public that the command is diligently addressing all reported cases, particularly those involving kidnapping and armed robbery, emphasizing their commitment to protecting lives and property.
