Two-storey building collapses in Abuja, traps 2

A two-storey building at 2.2 in Kubwa, Bwari local government area of Abuja collapsed at late the hours of Thursday.

It was learnt that at least five people have been rescued while two people were still trapped in the building that is under construction.

The building, collapsed at Hamza Abdullahi Street Off Gado Nasco Road.

Açcording to some of the rescued workers, the building suffered a total collapse around 11:30 p.m.

Officials of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) are still carrying out rescue operation as the time of filling this report.

One of the rescued victims, Hafeez Olayinka, told Nigerian NewsDirect that the building had collapsed on Thursday night at about 11:30 pm, but they were only rescued in the early hours of today (Friday), and we’re taken to the hospital.

“I have been here since on Monday to fix up some things in the building.

“At about 11:30 pm on Thursday, we noticed that the building was collapsing, and we tried to escape. But five of us we were rescued this morning, and they took us to the hospital.

Nigerian NewsDirect also gathered that the security officer at the site, popularly called Baba, was still in the building.
