Two security personnel killed by gunmen at Imo LG secretariat

On Tuesday night, gunmen attacked the headquarters of the Isiala-Mbano Local Government Area in Imo State, resulting in the deaths of two vigilante members who were on guard. Reports indicate that the assailants arrived at the secretariat around 8:30 p.m., opened fire indiscriminately, and set several vehicles ablaze.

Eyewitnesses described how the gunmen shot the vigilantes and ignited a fire that damaged a significant portion of the council building. The attackers also burned vehicles parked at the premises. The violence caused widespread panic, leading many residents of Umuelemai, the local government headquarters, to flee to nearby villages.

Another witness reported that two security personnel at the council headquarters were killed, and the attackers also destroyed a substantial part of the council building and several vehicles. Numerous individuals sustained injuries, and the atmosphere remains tense and fearful.

In response, Henry Okoye, the spokesman for the state police command, stated that tactical teams have been deployed to capture those responsible for the attack.
