Two persons remanded in prison for demolishing Enugu airport fence

A magistrate court sitting in Enugu State capital has remanded two accused persons over their alleged involvement in demolishing a perimeter fence of the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu.

It was reported that armed thugs invaded the facility on Friday and demolished a part of the perimeter fence.

Some of the suspects were arrested and handed over to the police by men of the Nigerian Air Force.

The arrest was later confirmed by the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Enugu State Command, DSP Daniel Ndukwe.

Our correspondent reports that the accused persons were arraigned before the magistrate court presided over by His Worship Apolonia Edeani on Monday.

Those arraigned included Mr. Jude Jonathan Emejulu, one other, and others at large.

They were charged under Section 1 (3) of the Miscellaneous Offences Act.

Both accused persons pleaded not guilty to the charge, prompting their counsel, Alex Amujiogu to pray the court for their bail.

However, Amujiogu’s efforts could not secure their bail following their alleged repeated history of committing the same act against the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, in the past.

The counter argument was canvased by the prosecutor, Barr Justus Attah, OC Legal, Enugu State Police Command.

The court ruled that Mr. Emejulu and one other be remanded in Enugu Correctional Center, while the case file be transmitted to the Director of Public Prosecution, DPP, for advice.
