Two men face court for allegedly stealing hotel property worth N1.7m

Two men, Emmanuel Thomas and Adamu Hassan on Wednesday appeared before a Surulere Magistrates’ Court, Lagos State, for allegedly stealing and receiving hotel property worth N1.7 million.

Thomas and Hassan, aged 31 and 26 respectively, were arraigned on a three-count charge of conspiracy, stealing and receiving stolen property.

The defendants, who have no fixed address, however, pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Insp Courage Ekhueorohan, told the court that the defendants committed the offences with one person at large, on Aug. 4, at Ojie0z Hotel, Ebute-Meta, Lagos State.

Ekhueorohan said that the first defendant, Thomas, stole two Fireman power generators, a deep fryer and an iron, all worth N1.7 million.

He said that the property belonged to Ojiez Hotel Ltd.

The prosecutor said that the second defendant, Hassan, dishonestly received the fireman generator.

Ekhueorohan said that the offences contravened Sections 287 (6), 328 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Magistrate, Mrs Olasunbo Otitoju, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N1 million with two sureties each. Otitoju directed that the sureties must provide proof of tax payment to Lagos State Government. She adjourned the case until Sept. 26 for mention.
