Two men arraigned for illegal possession of firearm in Ado-Ekiti

The Police on Wednesday arraigned two men, Ayodeji Oluwatayo and Folorunso Olowoyo, before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged illegal possession of firearm.

The defendants, whose addresses were not provided, are being tried on a charge of illegal possession of firearm.

The prosecutor, Insp Sodiq Adeniyi, told the court that the defendants committed the offence on Feb. 26 at about 3:40p.m in Aramoko-Ekiti.

He alleged that the police found in the possession of the defendants one single shotgun.

Adeniyi said the offence contravened Section 4 and punishable under Section 27(1) (b) (i ) of the Firearms Act 2004.

He urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him study the file and assemble his witnesses.

The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Counsel to the defendants, Mr Busuyi Ayorinde and Mr Olarewaju Oluwasola, urged the court to grant the defendants bail, with a promise that they would not jump bail.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Dolamu Babalogbon, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N50,000 each with one surety each in like sum.

She adjourned the case until April 18 for hearing.
