Two Lagos residents drown in Ogun after church inauguration

Two residents of Lagos State identified as Femi Akinola, aged 32 of Odo-Eran, Itire and 35-year-old Tunde Falade of Kola Alagbado were said to have reportedly drowned on Monday evening after attending the inauguration of Cherubim and Seraphim Church, Onikoko via Itori in Ewekoro local government area of the state.
According to statement from the Spokesperson of Ogun State police command, SP Omolola Odutola, a member of the Church, one Adebayo Adeosun was said to have reported the sad incident to the police at about 6:30pm on this fateful day.
Adeosun informed the police that some boys numbering about seven who came from Lagos on Sunday, 27th of August for his church inauguration later left to swim but got drowned in the process.
He further told the police that after the victims were rescued from the heavy tides, they were rushed to the Health Center in Itori where they were unfortunately confirmed dead by a medical doctor on duty.
The Divisional Police Officer, CSP Olayemi Jacob was said to have detailed his team to visit the scene upon receipt of the report and they ascertained that there were no marks of violence and no foul play suspected. The remains of Tunde and Femi were said to have since been evacuated to Ifo General hospital for autopsy reports and later deposited in the same morgue.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Abiodun Alamutu while extending his deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of the deceased during this difficult time, assured that the Command remains committed to promoting public safety and preventing such tragedies in the future. He however warned restive youths to steer clear of Rivers whose depth or tides they cannot ascertain.
