Two in court over alleged housebreaking, theft
Two men, Femi Kolawole, 24 and Chidi Agu, 42, were, on Tuesday, arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged house breaking and stealing.
The defendants, of unknown addresses, are facing a two-count charge of house breaking and stealing.
The Police Prosecutor, Insp Caleb Leramo, told the court that the defendants committed the offences sometimes in December 2021 at about 1:30 a.m. at Oke-Ila area of Ado-Ekiti.
Leramo said that Kolawole and one other, now at large, broke into the house of one Adetule Mayowa.
He also said that Kolawole and one other, at large, stole six window burglar proof, valued at N45,000, six aluminum window glasses, valued at N180,000 and one wall drop glass, valued at N15,000.
The prosecutor said that Kolawole also stole four bags of cement, valued at N16,000, eight pieces of louvre blades, valued at N20,000, three bundle of iron sheet, valued at 105,000 and one imported door, valued at N25,000, all totaling N406,000, property of the complainant.
He also said that Agu, sometimes in December 2021, at Ijigbo street in Ado-Ekiti, fraudulently received the stolen goods from Kolawole.
According to Leramo, the offences contravene Sections 413(1)(2) and 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.
He, however, asked the court for an adjournment to enable him study the case file and present his witnesses.
Counsel to the defendants, Mr Luke Mba, urged the court to grant the defendants bail, with a promised that they would not jump bail.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Saka Afunso, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N100,000 each, with one surety each in like sum.
Afunso said that the surety must produce three years tax clearance.
He, thereafter, adjourned the case till May 3, for hearing.
