Two dead as boat capsizes in Miga River

No fewer than  two persons  reportedly lost their lives when a boat capsized as a result of torrential rainfall and windstorm in Miga local government area of Jigawa state

The Spokesman for the Police Command, DSP Lawan Shisu Adam, who confirmed the incident, in a statement made available to journalists said the incident, which occurred last Saturday, involved some farmers, who were returning from their farms.

According to him, “Nine farmers were returning from their farms between Galauchime to Sansani village in Miga LGA of Jigawa State.

“On reaching a river, they boarded a canoe paddled by one Ado Dan Maguga to sail to Sansan. Unfortunately, the canoe capsized, due to the rain and wind storm.”

According to the statement seven people were rescued while the other two were not lucky. The affected victims include Imran Rabiu, 12, and Tasiu Rabiu, 14.

He said the corpses were handed over to their families

In another development Birnin Kudu Local Government has curved out by flooding.

He said the bridge across the road was also affected. With the latest development, motorists are now forced to take a longer route to Kiyawa before detouring to Bauchi

“Consequently, the Command is here by advising road users to seek alternative routes and people nearby should relocate to another and safer place,” the statement concluded.
