Suspected kidnappers abducted two Chinese nationals, Chen Wenguang and Liang Ding, in the Kémta/Abule-Owu area along Onigbedu Road in Ogun State, on Sunday.
It was gathered that the foreigners, affiliated with Good One Carton Company in the area, had left the company around 1:45 p.m. to visit friends, and were without any security personnel.
Confirming the incident on Monday, state police spokesperson Omolola Odutola stated that the kidnappers had contacted the company to demand a ransom for the release of the abducted foreigners.
Odutola said, “The company’s security supervisor reported that one of the expatriates had called to inform him that Wenguang and Ding were kidnapped and that the abductors were demanding money for their release.”
She mentioned that security forces in the state have initiated a search to rescue the victims.
“Our teams in the Ewekoro Division, supported by local vigilantes, military personnel from the Social Orientation and Safety Corps, local hunters, and other security groups, conducted an extensive search of the Kémta Village forest but did not find the victims,” she said.
She also noted that efforts to secure their release are ongoing.
