Two businessmen docked for alleged possession of fake U.S. dollars

Two businessmen on Monday appeared in a Wuse Zone Six Chief Magistrates’ Court, for allegedly being in possession of fake U.S. dollars.

The police charged Sadiq Mohammed, 38, and Sabo Abubakar,38, who both live in Mabushi, Abuja with being in possession of fake dollars.

Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Okonko Udo , told the court that the defendants were arrested in Mabushi Abuja, based on intelligence report made available to the operatives of the IGP’s  Special Tactical Squad on June 23.

In addition, the prosecutor said the defendants in company of six others who had earlier pleaded guilty and had been  sentenced to six months jail term each by the same court were arrested in Mabushi.

Udo further alleged that the defendants were caught with some counterfeit U.S dollars and during police investigation, they could not give satisfactory account of how they came about the counterfeit dollars .

The prosecutor said the offence contravened the provisions of sections 97 and 376 of the Penal Code.

The defendants however, pleaded not guilty.

Magistrate Musa Saddeeq admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N100, 000 each and one surety each in like sum.

He ordered that the sureties must reside within the court jurisdiction.

Saddeeq adjourned the case until Sept. 22 for hearing.
