Transfer: Tuchel explains why Bayern Munich didn’t sign Cancelo permanently
Bayern Munich boss, Thomas Tuchel has explained why the club did not sign Manchester City’s Joao Cancelo on a permanent basis.
He said Bayern Munich decided against signing Cancelo on a permanent transfer following his loan spell last season because the Bundesliga champions received Alphonso Davies back from injury and also signed Rapha Guerrero as a free agent.
Recall that Cancelo left Man City to join Bayern on loan after falling out with manager Pep Guardiola.
Explaining why Cancelo returned to Man City, Tuchel was quoted by the Sun UK as saying: “It was never football reasons (behind his return). He is a fantastic football player.
“It was just that we got Alphonso Davies back, full strength from injury and we decided to sign Rapha Guerrero as a free agent.
“So it was a matter of position and a matter of finance. He helped us a lot in the half a year he played for us. He is a fantastic guy and a fantastic footballer. That is why.”
