Transfer: Manchester United to battle Chelsea, Arsenal for Kudus’ signing on one condition

Manchester United could still battle Chelsea and Arsenal for the signing of Ajax’s Mohammed Kudus if they fail in their pursuit of Atalanta’s Rasmus Hojlund.

Man United have already signed Mason Mount and Andre Onana this summer and are now looking to bring in a new number nine – though they remain some way apart in talks with Atalanta over Hojlund’s signature.

The Red Devils are willing to spend a maximum of £60million to sign Hojlund, who scored nine goals in Serie A last season.

But Atalanta are holding out for an even bigger fee for the 20-year-old star.

While Hojlund remains Man United manager, Erik ten Hag’s preferred choice to bring in, The Times reports that the Dutchman and the club’s board will consider alternatives if priced out of a transfer move and may not go for a like-for-like replacement.

Man United will consider Kudus as an option even though he does not play as an orthodox striker.

The Ghanaian international has predominantly played as either a No.10 or right winger for both club and country.

But Kudus’ versatility means he could also be used as a false nine.
