Train attack: I did not solicit funds from Nigerians for treatment of victims – Amaechi
Minister of Transportation, Rt Hon Rotimi Amaechi, has dismissed reports that he solicited financial support from Nigerians for the treatment of victims of the Abuja-Kaduna train attack as malicious and a total misrepresentation of his statement.
Amaechi on his verified Twitter and Instagram handles, on Thursday, said “We did not ask for contribution from Nigerians. I said the Ministry of Transportation and the Federal Government are grateful to the Nigerian Army for providing free treatment for the injured and that the Nigerian Railway Corporation would liaise with the hospital management to cover other expenses.”
The posts by the Minister had an accompanying video showing his conversations with some victims at the 44 Military Reference Hospital in Kaduna during his visit on Wednesday.
Amaechi assured the patients that the hospital was treating them for free and thanked the Nigerian Army for providing the free treatment to the victims.
He stated that passengers and locomotives were insured but not the tracks.
He further directed the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) to liaise with the hospital to take care of any extra cost.
